Ingenico Closer to Including Innovative Tools

The National Retail Federation held their yearly Show January 15-17 in New York. A chance for many industry players to demo their latest technological achievements, and maybe heavily impact the purchasing process. Just like their international counterparts, Ingenico made sure to present some of their new solutions, however, they did not stricto sensu call for a revolution, they did enhance some of their innovations.

At the Retail’s Big Show, Ingenico featured four innovations on their booth. First, in-car payments for autonomous vehicles. They recently partnered with Navya, and will be integrating connected screens in their “Autonom Cabs”. A range of on-board services should be covered, including payments (from this connected screen).

Second, their robot Pepper has already been presented and even adopted by many brands. But Ingenico made changes to its tablet, including NFC payment compatibility. Pepper can now identify each user, or more precisely their payment card.

Lastly, Ingenico is expanding its range of offers with a set of new features: addition of instant apps for their Think&Go screens (pushing content without the user needing to install an app); merger of payment and loyalty features in Apple Pay and Android Pay (when making a payment, the user’s smartphone could handle both in one tap).

The payment sector has been benefiting for latest technological developments, helped by new regulations –which favour the emergence of new players–, and customers’ increasing reliance on e-payments. As a leader in integrated payment solutions, Ingenico chooses to buy out more specialists. Last year, they purchased the Swedish FinTech Bambora to consolidate their skills in acquiring activities for small merchants. Then they also bought out the New Zealand-based e-payment company Paymark early this year. They are providing themselves with the means to expand their geographical coverage and businesses, stand up to rival, digital-only players, and challenge their US counterpart Verifone, among others.

Ingenico keeps in mind possible retail evolutions when designing tools to be included in various connected objects. For instance, they presented a chatbots for brands to accept payments on Facebook Messenger, and likely to be applied to other social media.
